Toscanellie Marcelain

     “Lady T.” is an independent jazz vocalist, bandleader and jazz enthusiast passionate about the presentation and preservation of jazz. She has performed at many Chicago-area venues. She has held many performance residencies, including a 2-year Saturday night residency at Cyrano's Farm Kitchen in Chicago's River North neighborhood, an 8-year Friday and Saturday residency at Pacific Blue Seafood-Steaks-Oysters Restaurant nee Ciao Bella Ristorante in Glen Ellyn, IL and featured vocalist for the John Wright Quartet at Philanders in Oak Park, IL for more than 5 years.

     Some “Lady T.” U.S. performance highlights are the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Hyde Park Jazz Society Jazz Festival, the Maywood Jazz Fest, the East Dundee Wine Festival, the Hazel Crest Village Jazz Festival, the Hyde Park Jazz Society Sunday Jazz Series and the Iowa Quad Cities Polyrhythms Sunday Jazz Series. She was an annual main stage performer for the Chicago Merchandise Mart “One of a Kind Show and Sale,” for more than 5 years.

      Known to her international listeners as the “American Lady with a lot of jazz to give,” T. has been a representative for America’s jazz at diplomatic, international and cultural jazz events in Europe, East Africa, West Africa and the former Soviet Union. She hosted a weekly live jazz television broadcast from the Bass Line Jazz Club she managed in Accra, Ghana; organized, booked, and presented the first-ever Jazz Festival in Lusaka, Zambia and performed at many international jazz clubs and hotels, including performance residencies at the Inter-Continental and Pamodzi Hotels. Numerous other abroad performances including concerts, festivals, and international events as a representative for America's. T. has also presented and directed theater events, and does commercial voice overs.

      Toscanellie is a very active mentor, clinician and resource for the jazz community, emphasizing opportunities for young and new jazz listeners, vocalists and musicians. She is an associate for the observance of “Jazz  Appreciation Month” every April on behalf of the Smithsonian Institution, organizing, presenting and reporting jazz events throughout the year, and submitting jazz information and materials for U.S. archiving of this important occasion. During the tenure of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel he issued  Proclamations declaring April “Jazz Appreciation Month in Chicago” that also honored the jazz culture in Chicago.

      T. has been listed as “Best of the Best” of outstanding performers highly recommended for adult programming, recognized by the Library Administrators of Northern Illinois, since 2008.

     Toscanellie is a songwriter and publisher member of ASCAP. Her CD   discography includes “Bringing Back Some Basics,” “A Celebration for Jazz” (live at Ciao Bella Ristorante), “The Lady T. Trio,” “Christmas the Wright Way (with the John Wright Quartet), "Speak Low," and her latest release, “T for Three.” Her recordings are heard on radio and internet play lists.
